Tech Tip: Remove Printable Area Dashed Lines from Page Layouts in AutoCAD

Tired of seeing the dashed lines in a page layout? Or does your title block Xref include linework for specific printable area guides and you only want to see those?  The dashed lines of a page layout depicting the printable area can be turned off! Learn how in this Tech Tip from Alain Michalak!

Turning off the printable area dashed lines is suggested if you have manageable linework you use to define your printable area but want to de-clutter and get rid of the OOTB (Out of the Box) settings that show the represented dashed lines set in AutoCAD-based products.

To turn off the printable area:

  1. Access the Page Setup dialog box by right-clicking on a page layout tab in paper space.
  2. Select your Printer/Plotter and click on the Properties button.
  3. In the Plotter Configuration Editor, Select the Custom Paper Sizes item and click on the Add button of the Custom Paper Sizes section at the bottom.
  4. In the Custom Paper Size dialog box, change the Printable Area settings to show a value of 0 (zero) for the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right fields.  Normally they are shown as 0.25.
  5. Finish configuring your custom paper size.

When configuring new layouts, make sure to manually select the custom paper size you created to take advantage of the work you did.

Note: The bottom left corner will now be set to 0,0 and can be useful in many ways.
